The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday approved the construction of 200 additional bunkers in Rajouri district in the wake of heavy shelling from across the border.
Rajouri Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad, during a meeting with officials, announced that every family residing in 0-3 km range of the Line of Control and are left uncovered will be provided with an individual family bunker, while community bunkers will be constructed near schools and hospitals.
Asad directed concerned authorities to provide a list of schools, health institutions and other areas falling in the range of 0-3 kilometres which have not been covered in already identified locations.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri Sher Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Nowshera Sukhdev Singh Samayal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sunderbani Vinod Bhel and officers from health, education and rural development department.
In addition, a team has been constituted under the supervision of Sher Singh to monitor the construction and submit a report every week.
A total of 5196 bunkers are being constructed in seven blocks along the 120 km long stretch of the LoC. These include Sunderbani, Qila Drahal, Nowshera, Doongi, Rajouri, Panjgrain and Manajakote.
All these bunkers are in different phases of execution.
