The Central Information Commission, in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application, has revealed that a total of 203 applications have been received for the position of Chief Information Commissioner.
This information, given by Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) R.K. Girdhar, was in response to an RTI filed by Commodore (retired) Lokesh Batra on December 1.
Among those who have applied for this post are the former secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Dr. Syamal Kumar Sarkar, and all seven serving Information Commissioners.
It may be noted that the file for selection of Chief Information Commissioner remained pending in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) from August 1 to October 17.
The applications for the post were invited on October 24 and the last date to apply for the post was fixed for November 23.
The position has been vacant since the resignation of Rajiv Mathur in August this year.
