205 die after heavy monsoon rains hit Punjab, POK

At least 205 people have been killed as a result of heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan's Punjab province and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to the Dawn, an official from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan, said that 131 people perished in the heavy rains in Punjab; 11 have died in Gilgit Baltistan whereas the death toll in PoK has risen to 63.

The NDMA warned of massive flooding in the Qadirabad headworks on River Chenab.

Meanwhile, the Trimmu Barrage is reportedly receiving 177,000 cusecs water on River Chenab.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) website issued a flood alert stating that the peak at Trimmu would continue for another 24-48 hours owing to second flood peak in River Chenab.

 

Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the flood-affected areas and urged that rescue and relief operations should be speeded up.
