20th Century Fox has given a green signal to the sequel of 1996 film 'Independence Day.'
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film, for which Roland Emmerich is in talks to direct, has been set for June 24, 2016 release, and would be produced by Dean Devlin, who had worked on the original film.
It was Devlin who shared the development of the project through his Twitter account.
Emmerich, Devlin and Harald Kloser are producing the film, and though there are no news about the cast, Emmerich had said back in 2013 that Will Smith would not be returning in the follow-up, while Jeff Goldblum was believed to be talks in October.
The original film had grossed more than 800 million dollars worldwide at the box office.
