As many as 22 couples tied the nuptial knot in a mass marriage ceremony, organised to spread the message of cutting down expenditure on ceremonies Jaipur.
The ceremony was organised as part of the auspicious month that started after 'Akshay Tritya' was celebrated on April 21. The period after the festival is considered auspicious for weddings, new business ventures, house warming ceremonies and the purchase of gold ornaments and household goods. It is traditionally believed that any venture initiated on this day brings success, joy and luck.
The mass marriage, organised by the Rajput community, aimed to reduce unnecessary expenditure in organising wedding ceremonies.
This was the first time that a mass marriage ceremony of the Rajput community was organised in Jaipur.
"There are 22 couples who are getting married. In Rajput community there is a lot of expenditure incurred on marriages. We are organinsing a mass ceremony to spread the message among people to cut down on useless expenses. One of the couple who is getting married here are doctors. This will help send a message that educated people are coming forward, and benefit poor farmer families from remote villages," said president of Rajput community, Giriraj Singh.
