At least 25 policemen were killed and three others wounded in an attack by militants targeting two buses in Egypt's North Sinai, a security official told Xinhua on Monday.
The two buses were sending recruits from their base in Tawilia village in North Sinai's Rafah city to their homes to spend vacation, when a militant group intercepted them by force.
The unknown gunmen forced the policemen to leave the bus and put them in lines, and then started shooting excessively, the source added.
Official news agency MENA said that the militants fired the two buses with RPGs (rocket-propelled grenade).
The military helicopters are transferring the wounded to hospital for treatment as security deployment was reinforced at main roads to arrest the suspects.
At least 14 people were killed and over 60 others injured last week in an armed attack on police and army premises in Arish city in Sinai.
