At least three persons were wounded on Friday during a shooting at Noblesville West Middle School in Indiana, a Midwestern US state, the authorities said.

A suspect was taken into custody after what the Indiana State Police had earlier described as an active shooter incident, CNN reported.

"NFD and NPD are on scene of an active shooter at Noblesville West Middle School. Suspect is in custody. NPD will have more info when it's available," NFD tweeted.

According to the report, Noblesville police Chief Kevin Jowitt told reporters that a teacher and a student were wounded, who were taken to the hospital.

Noblesville is an outlying suburb of Indianapolis, about 27 miles north of the city.

This comes barely days after the May 19 gun shooting incident, wherein, at least ten people were shot dead in Santa Fe High School in an early morning shootout in the southeastern Texas city of Santa Fe, about 50 kilometres away from Houston.
