The intimate secrets of a passionate wartime affair has been laid bare in 300 love letters dating back to Word War II.

The exchanges between a married surgeon and a young nurse show little has changed since the Second World War when it comes to sexy messages that keep long-distance love alive.

As well as declaring undying devotion to each other, Brian Thomas and Katie Walker discussed her homemade lingerie and she even fantasised about being spanked by him, the Mirror reported.

The letters have been compared to mummy porn novel Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James.

But Brian and Katie's love was real and it lasted the rest of their lives.

Loraine Fergusson found the proof in a neat bundle, after her mum Katie died aged 88.

Katie laid the foundations of their enduring love by "building some special undies" which Brian got excited about in one letter.

In another she talks of a "heavenly spanking".
