Rep. Tim Bishop, D-N.Y. has warned that nearly 40 US citizens who have fought alongside the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL or ISIS) have returned to the United States.

According to FOX News, Bishop said that of the 100 plus Americans who have traveled to the Middle East to join ISIL's ranks, some 40 have returned and are currently being surveilled by the FBI.

He expressed concerns about the number of US citizens who had already left the country to join the extremist group.

Bishop said during a speech that it is believed that some 40 of those who left this country to join up with ISIS have now returned to the US.

The FBI has taken nearly 40 individuals under surveillance, who are now under constant watch of the bureau.
