World 400m Champion Christine Ohuruogu has said that she believes young women find sport to be a turn-off because according to what is portrayed in the media, it has to compete with an inappropriate celebrity lifestyle.
According to the BBC, Ohuruogu pointed out girls were bombarded with images of an easier lifestyle.
She added it was no surprise that very susceptible young women chose other things over the hard work associated with sport.
She said that the best thing we can do is show them the benefits of doing sport, whether at elite level or recreational level, where athletes are just trying to keep fit and stay healthy.
Ohuruogu further said that it was however, not the fault of young women but that of the TV, magazines and the setting out of these images where women were told what to be like and how life was going to be, is wrong.
