Two bombs have exploded at a mosque and an elite Muslim restaurant in Nigerian city of Jos, killing at least 44 people.

Sixty-seven people have been injured in the blast and are being treated at hospitals, ABC News quoted National Emergency Management Agency coordinator Abdussalam Mohammed, as saying.

According to the survivors, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, the explosion at the Yantaya Mosque came as leading cleric Sani Yahaya of the Jama'atu Izalatul Bidia organization, which preaches peaceful co-existence of all religions, was addressing a crowd during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Jos has been frequently attacked with violent religious confrontations. It has been targetted with bomb blasts by Boko Haram militants.

More than 200 people have been killed in Nigeria over the past week in a string of attack by Boko Haram.
