Almost half of all Americans (47 percent) believe that the country is less safe now as compared to any time since the 9/11 attacks, say a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll.

The recent beheadings of American journalists by the Islamic State militants heighten a major sense of concern, said the report.

According to the Dawn, the report suggested that most Americans were not eager to give up the fight against an upcoming threat from the IS group to the country.

The survey also found that 40 percent of respondents say that the U.S. action against IS should be limited to airstrikes while 34 percent said that it should include both airstrikes and troops.
