The Central Government has issued a tender to import 5,000 tonnes of arhar dal to boost domestic supply and check the rising prices.
State-run Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation, MMTC, has invited bids for the supply of 5,000 tonnes of arhar dal.
According to the tender, overseas suppliers should import arhar dal of Myanmar, Malawi or and Mozambique origin grown in the current year.
India imports about four million tonnes of pulses, through private trade, to meet domestic shortfall.
The production of pulses is estimated to have fallen last year due to deficient monsoon and unseasonal rains.
