New 'Fifty Shades of Grey' book, called 'Grey,' has been stolen days before its release.

Police have now launched an investigation amid fears that it could be sold to the highest bidder on the black market, the Mirror reported.

The new book from E.L. James, which was pegged to be released on June 18th, is a re-imagining of the original book, told from billionaire Christian Grey's perspective.

The theft is now being investigated alongside its publishers Penguin Random House, amid concerns that extracts from the highly-anticipated erotic novel will be sold.

Representatives for Penguin Random House did not want to comment due to the ongoing police investigation, but a spokeswoman for CPI UK confirmed it is printing the spin-off, adding "I doubt it's gone missing from one of our printworks seeing as I haven't heard about it.
