A poll has revealed record levels of mistrust between China and Japan and has predicted that the two countries may go to war in as little as six years.
A public opinion poll conducted by the China Daily newspaper and Japanese non-governmental organization, Genron, has showed that almost 53 percent of Chinese expect a war by 2020 as opposed to 29% of Japanese respondents, reported The Daily Star.
The poll that has been carried out over the last 10 years has shown incredibly low favorability ratings between the two countries. Eighty seven percent Chinese said this year that they have a negative impression of Japan, just a slight decrease from last year's record high.
The survey also revealed that almost 93 percent of Japanese respondents have a negative impression of China which is the worst rating that the poll has seen as yet.
The report added that the conflict between the two countries runs back to wartime atrocities committed by Japan against China in the 1937 Nanking Massacre.
