The data released on Monday by Karachi police unfolded the annual performance reports of the number of suspects , hardened criminals and terrorists 'encountered' by the police and rangers.
696 suspects were killed in different encounters in the metropolis during 2015 by the police and the rangers.
However, according to the official report ,1,577 encounters took place during 2015 and 544 suspected militants, gangsters, criminals, etc were killed and the number of policemen who lost their lives in armed attacks is 83 and 89 were victimized.
Moreover, in 2015, the total number of suspects held on different charges by the police and rangers was 10,961 and the arrested being 4,074 in metropolis and half among them were not accused of any crime.
The Rangers spokesperson said that 2,198 suspects (out of 4,074) were handed over to the police for prosecution. Of them, a total of 1,301 suspects were allegedly involved in terrorism cases (887), targeted killing (268), and extortion (97) and kidnapping for ransom (49), the Dawn reported.
In contrast to the figures in 2014, the suspects killed in encounters and of the law-enforcers targeted in 2015 are less.
