7.7 magnitude earthquake leaves scores dead in Kathmandu

A strong earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude has left scores dead in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu.

According to Kantipur TV, hospital buildings in the capital were evacuated as patients moved outside.

The authorities are conducting rescue operations as emergency services try to cope with the extent of damage.

The earthquake was 31 km deep and tremors were felt as far as New Delhi and other northern cities in India, said witnesses.
