A 82-year-old American drag racer had reportedly made a new quarter-mile record last week after nailing 184.01mph on the track with the help of a new electric vehicle within 7.258 seconds.
Don 'Big Daddy' Garlits, who made the run at the Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, was driving the Swamp Rat-37, a battery-electric dragster designed to exceed 200mph on a quarter-mile drag strip and broke the record of Kristen Stacy and her speed of 161.87mph.
According to The Verge, Garlits remarked in a statement that he is aiming to nail upto 200 mph on the track in the vehicle, which carries six 7.5-inch series-wound DC motors and uses lithium-polymer battery packs that gives a total output of 1,500 kilowatts.
However, the report said that there is some uncertainty about whether Garlits' achievement is officially recognized by the National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) as there is no qualifying backup run.
