Anti-polio volunteers in Karachi have succeeded in vaccinating 95 percent of the targeted children against the virus despite the deadly attack on the seven policemen guarding polio workers last week.
"During the campaign concluded last week, around 7,000 volunteers and teams succeeded to vaccinate 95 percent of the target in Karachi," Dawn quoted officials of the emergency operations centre (EOC) for polio in Sindh, as saying.
The meeting was presided over by Karachi commissioner Asif Hyder Shah.
"That performance by our brave teams was satisfactory, but now we have to immunise 100 percent children in the next campaign," said Shah.
In the meeting arrangements for the next eight-day campaign scheduled to start next week in five of the six districts of Karachi was reviewed.
Besides officials of the region army, police and the Rangers attended the meeting.
Representatives from the World Health Organisation, Unicef and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation were also present.
