Doping accused American baseball star Alex Rodriguez is reportedly set to sue the Major League Baseball (MLB), accusing the association of buying the cooperation of the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic, which is at the heart of the doping scandal, as part of a 'witch hunt' to force him out of the game.

The New York Yankees star has been banned for 211 games by MLB over the doping scandal, which threatens to end his career.

According to The Guardian, Rodriguez launched a legal action on MLB, accusing it of paying a total of five million dollars to 'buy the cooperation' of Anthony Bosch, the head of the now-closed clinic, adding that the body also promised to provide security for Bosch, cover his legal bills and protect him from civil liability over the case.

Fearful that the arbitration hearing may not reduce the length of his suspension, Rodriguez's lawsuit claimed that MLB has been engaged in 'tortuous and egregious conduct' to improperly collect evidence to destroy the reputation and career of Rodriguez.

Other players implicated in the Biogenesis scandal were suspended for less than 100 games, and mostly for 50 games, the report added.
