Senior advocate and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader H S Phoolka has complained to the Election Commission (EC) that the leaders of Akali Dal are threatening voters ahead of the by-elections in Punjab. He has also accused a Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member of attacking AAP candidate Professor Baljinder Kaur.

Phoolka said, "The ministers and leaders of Akali Dal are threatening voters even after the time to campaign is over. Today morning, an SGPC member attacked our candidate. Her driver, who attempted to save her, has suffered a lot of injuries and is in the hospital."

He added, "We have informed the administration and police but the police has not taken any action. The SGPC member is still at large in the area but police has not arrested him."

He further said, "We have given the names of villages where Akali Dal members are sitting but the administration has not taken any action."

"We met the Deputy Election Commissioner just now and the commissioner has assured us the action will be taken," he said.

The assembly by-polls in Punjab are scheduled to be held on August 21 for the assembly constituencies of Patiala (Urban) and Talwandi Sabo.
