The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced a five-point programme, including creating 800,000 jobs, opening 20 new colleges and providing education loans, for the youth of the state ahead of Delhi Assembly polls.
AAP leaders were formally launching their 'Delhi Dialogue', an interactive initiative to connect with voters of different stratas of society at Jantar Mantar.
Addressing the gathering, AAP chief, Arvind Kejriwal, said providing higher education to the youth of Delhi would be the government's responsibility.
"The population of Delhi has increased but the number of colleges has not increased. That is why the youth of Delhi are struggling to continue their education. So this will be our first work. It would be the government's responsibility to provide admission to all candidates who pass 10+2 and want to study in college," said Kejriwal.
The first episode of the 'Delhi Dialogue' witnessed a sizeable gathering of people especially, the youth. Musical performances by young artistes, especially popular TV reality show anchor and AAP supporter, Raghu Ram struck a chord with them.
The core team of 'Delhi Dialogue' comprises four people headed by Ashish Khetan. The dialogue has a proper procedure to make this campaign a success.
Highlighting the issue of admission faced by students especially after class XII, Kejriwal said the main cause of the problem was lack of infrastructure in the education sector.
He added that the government will also ensure that students get loan for pursuing their education.
"When a student seeks admission in college after completing 10+2, he will be given a form to fill in order to be eligible to get a bank loan. They don't need to keep their house or land on mortgage to continue higher education. The Delhi government will take the responsibility of refunding his loan," said Kejriwal.
The AAP chief also tried to woo youth by promising to make Delhi a Wi-Fi city.
The former Delhi chief minister said, if his party came to power, it would fill the 50,000 vacancies of doctors, teachers, nurses and other professionals in the Delhi government.
Kejriwal added that the government would also help students to get loan through banks.
"We have made a calculation. Within five years, we will provide training to 10 lakh youths. The youths will be trained in newly opened colleges and we will generate 800,000 employment opportunities within 10 years," said Kejriwal.
Kejriwal also promised to better the sports infrastructure by building stadia in the city.
He added that all sports grounds in government schools would be opened to budding sportspersons for training.
Delhi is headed for elections after the assembly was dissolved earlier this month.
