Defending the MLAs accused of creating a ruckus at the Burari Police Station last night, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said they were just protesting against the police inaction in a kidnapping case and accused the men in uniform of misbehaving with the people.

"Two children in a family had gone missing. Then the family members and few other people made efforts to find out about the kidnapper and the children without informing the police and somehow they managed to be successful. Given the fact that the children were kidnapped and the people had caught hold of the kidnapper as well, it was the duty of the police to at least register an FIR. So, those people had gone to the police to register an FIR. But instead of doing their job they started misbehaving with them," said AAP leader Dilip Pandey.

"The parents of the kids kept on pleading the policemen to take a note of the crime but they did not, even after the kids told them that the kidnapper was about to abduct a few more children from other areas," he said.

Pandey also accused the police personnel of misbehaving with the people.

"When those six to seven people had gone to register an FIR, what wrong did they do? It is wrong to say that there was any sort of vigilantism," he said.

"After all this, the people called some other relatives of theirs to convince the police but instead the latter started abusing the people. This led to a chaotic situation but still the police did not file an FIR," he added.

An FIR has been registered against AAP MLAs Sanjiv Jha and Akhilesh Tripathi for creating ruckus at the Burari Police Station last night in which over 15 people were injured.
