The Congress on Tuesday slammed the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP Government over the issue surrounding hike in the salary of its MLAs, saying the 21 parliamentary secretaries were appointed so that the legislators could enjoy the perks and privileges of ministers.

"They appointed 21 parliamentary secretaries which is unprecedented. They made it just because they want the MLAs to enjoy the perks and privileges of the ministers," Congress leader Ajay Maken told ANI.

"What is more ironical and shocking is the party calls itself Aam Aadmi's Party and they submitted affidavits to voters before the elections, stating and promising that they will behave like common citizens. After becoming the MLAs, they don't want to just be the MLAs," he added.

Maken alleged that the AAP Government is bringing the VIP culture and said that it is astonishing that the MLAs are asking for 400 percent increase in their salary.

Slamming the government over its promises it had made to the people, the Congress leader asked Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to give an answer on this.

An independent panel on Tuesday recommended a hike in the salary of the MLAs of Delhi.

The panel has recommended that the MLAs' salary should be increased to Rs. 50,000 from the current Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 70,000 for assistance.

It has also recommended for a conveyance hike from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 30,000.
