The MLAs and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), attempting to 'gherao' the residence of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, were detained for some time on Thursday.
They had given a call to gherao and protest outside the Home Minister's residence in Delhi's Akbar Road, but they were detained under the Delhi Police (DP) Act, as the area is under prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) Act, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Madhur Verma, informed.
This came after the arrest of two AAP MLAs in connection with the alleged assault on Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash.
At 12:00 p.m., 89 persons, including 14 females and 75 males, were detained, and later released.
A minister of the Government of National Capital Territory (GNCT) named the six detained MLAs as follows- RP Gautam, Girish Saini, Fateh Singh, Anil Vajpayee, Rakhi Bidlan and Ajay Dutt.
