Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Vasegaran began a hunger strike here on Sunday demanding the release of 50 volunteers of his party who were arrested on March 21 for barging into the compound of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's official residence.

"This is very unfortunate and till the time they don't release our volunteers, we will keep a fast and it will start from today," Vasegaran told ANI here.

"Our AAP volunteers were at the CM's residence to give a petition for Muthukumaraswamy," he added.

The AAP members, who were booked for barging into Paneerselvam's residence on Greenways Road, had gone to submit a petition to the Chief Minister demanding a CBI probe into the death of executive engineer of agriculture department Muthukumaraswamy.

According to reports, all the 50 AAP members have been remanded in judicial custody till April 1 and a probe has been ordered.

Muthukumaraswamy, who allegedly committed suicide earlier in February by jumping in front of a train in Tirunelveli, was reportedly unable to bear pressure over the issue of appointments to certain posts.
