Australian opener Aaron Finch said that he wasn't overly worried about his form and never feared for his spot in the squad during his lean spell at the World Cup and now after finding some runs, in the semifinal against India, he is raring to go in Sydney's final at his home ground.
Finch hit an uncharacteristically scrappy 81 in a match-winning partnership of 182 with Steven Smith as Australia beat India by 95 runs on Thursday to set up a final meeting with New Zealand.
Finch admitted that it wasn't his best innings, adding that he had to grind a little bit but was fortunate to have Smith at the other end, Sport24 reported.
He said that Smith sort of kept that partnership flowing while he was trying to grind it out and get down the other end.
The Sydney victory takes the opener back home to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the site of the impressive 135 with which he opened the tournament. Only 64 more runs followed until he hit his stride against India in an innings skipper Michael Clarke described as a real positive for Finch and for the team.
Finch said that he didn't feel like he was hitting the ball badly, adding that he felt like he was hitting it nicely in the nets for the last couple of weeks so he wasn't overly worried about his form. He said that it was just a case of getting in and getting through the initial new ball.
