The All Assam Students Union (AASU) on Friday led a torch-lit protest against the recently passed Indo-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement Bill.

The protesters accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government of cheating the sentiments of the people of Assam.

"The Bangladeshi people in Assam will have to leave the state. It is important to seal the border of Assam. The government has taken the wrong decision. The Modi Government has cheated the people of Assam. The Government should understand the pain of the people of Assam for Bangladeshi people," said AASU leader, Depoipankar Nath.

The Lok Sabha passed the Constitution 119th Amendment Bill on the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh on Thursday.

The Bill was unanimously passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with 180 votes in favour and zero against it.

The agreement aims at the acquiring of territories by India and the transfer of territories to Bangladesh through retaining of adverse possession in pursuance of the 1974 agreement between the two nations. Assam, West Bengal, Tripura and Meghalaya all fall under the bill.
