A recounting of all the votes in Afghanistan's Presidential elections has been reportedly approved by both the candidates who are likely to replace Hamid Karzai as the next President of Afghanistan, said the US Secretary of State, John Kerry at a press conference yesterday.
According to the BBC, he welcomed the decision taken by saying that it indicates the commitment of the two candidates to restore legitimacy to the democratic process in Afghanistan. The recounting is scheduled to begin within 24 hours after the announcement was made by Kerry.
While Ghani described the move as the most comprehensive audit in the history of elections, Abdullah on the other hand termed it a political agreement.
Kerry was on a hastily arranged visit to Afghanistan to resolve the crisis that ensued after the counting of votes began in Afghanistan. Both the candidates, Abdullah Abdullah and Ashraf Ghani had alleged electoral fraud immediately after preliminary results were declared.
