Senior advocate Abha Singh on Sunday said that the Delhi Police should arrest former law minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti, who is accused of domestic violence by his wife, and called for his custodial interrogation.

"The Delhi Police should arrest him and take a custodial interrogation. The evidences which she (Lipika Mitra) has put forward are sufficient to arrest Somnath Bharti," Singh told ANI.

"When cognizable offences have been alleged against Somnath Bharti then why is the Delhi Police just summoning him when he refuses to respond to the summons?" asked Singh.

The Delhi Police had registered a case against the AAP MLA after he was accused of domestic violence and mental torture by his wife Lipika Mitra.

The case was registered against Bharti under Sections 307, 323 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code.

Lipika has been married to Bharti since 2010, but has been living separately from him since 2012 along with the couple's two children in a rented accommodation in Dwarka.
