David Bowie's producer Tony Visconti has apologised to Adele after suggesting that her vocals could have been digitally "manipulated" to make them sound better.

In an exclusive statement to Billboard, the 72-year-old producer said, "I'm sorry that what I said in regards to what's being played on radio was misconstrued yet I cannot apologize for something taken the wrong way. If Adele has taken my comments as offensive that was certainly not my intent."

Visconti, who is currently serving as a judge on British talent show Guitar Star, added that the 28-year-old British songstress has a "great voice" that brings pleasure to millions.

Last week, he told The Daily Star, "You turn the radio on and it's fluff, you are listening to 90 percent computerized voices. We know Adele has a great voice but it's even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don't know."

At a recent concert, the 'Rolling in the Deep' hit-maker fired back at the criticism, saying "Some d--khead...tried to say that my voice wasn't me on record. Dude, suck my d--k.
