Additional Director General (ADG) Public Relations (PR) Railways Anil Saxena today confirmed that the Katra-Udhampur rail connectivity, which had been affected by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir, is back to normal.

"The most affected route Udhampur-Katra has been normalized since yesterday morning. The whole traffic has been restored by removing boulders, marsh and water. So the rail connectivity of Katra, Udhampur and Jammu with the rest of the country is normal now. And the stranded people can use the rail service at the station," said Saxena.

"We have also set up a help desk there, so if people contact the station manager and commercial staff then they will guide them. We have supplied three lakh water bottles made by IRCTC Rail Neer, sent via the Air Force and by train. We have also decided as long as it is required we will supply around 50,000 bottles of Rail Neer per day to the flood affected people," he added.

Train services resumed today between Katra and Udhampur after they were halted earlier due to the deteriorating flood-like situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Incessant rains resulted in mud slides, flash floods and rising of water level in all rivers of Jammu and Kashmir, due to which flood waters and heavy boulders had fallen on the train tracks, which had led to the cancellation of all services on those lines.

Around 200 people have died in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed a 'national disaster'.

Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts in South Kashmir have been the worst hit due to the calamity.

Earlier today, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah while conducting an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas himself dropped relief material for the victims and said that supplying food, water and medicine is his government's top priority.

Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag has so far confirmed evacuation of 49,832 people this morning from flood hit areas.
