AdhereTech has created a newer version of its original smart pill bottle prototype that would keep a track of when the patients take or miss pill.
The bottle tracks the opening and closing of the childproof cap, how much medication is removed, and sends that information via cell phone technology to doctors and pharmacists, who can monitor it, the Verge reports.
According to the report, the bottle's small light indicators glow blue during the window of time that the patient needs to take medication, and if the bottle isn't opened, they turn red and beep to remind the patient to take the pills.
If the medicine isn't taken, the patient and caregivers receive a phone call or text message alert as an additional reminder, the report added.
