Security expert Wing Commander (retired) Praful Bakshi on Sunday welcomed the move by the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan to carry out an operation against terrorism, adding that the maneuver had the potential to be beneficial to India.
"The first thing that Pakistan and Afghanistan need to do in order to carry out an operation against terrorists is to define what terrorism is. They have to also chalk out what kind of an operation they will do - will it be a joint operation, coordinated operation... It is a good step if they can work out to the benefit of the policies of both nations," Wing Commander (retired) Bakshi told ANI.
"India is against terrorism. If Afghanistan and Pakistan become against terrorism and stay true to their word, then terrorists will not find any shelter at all. It will truly be beneficial to India if they can eliminate the terrorists who are a threat to India," he added.
Wing Commander (retired) Bakshi further called for the United Nations to clarify the wording of a letter from United Nations Security Council chairman Gary Quinlan to Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed, in which the 26/11 terror strike mastermind was referred to as 'saheb'.
"You cannot refer to the epitome of the suffering of mankind as 'saheb' and if you are, then it goes against the ethos and ethics of humanitarian law. I feel the UN must clarify why Saeed was accorded this respect," he stated.
Earlier in the day, India registered its protest after Saeed was referred to as 'saheb' in a letter signed by Quinlan, dated December 17.
