Ending months of political standoff, Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah has reportedly accepted that his rival, Ashraf Ghani, should lead the nation.
Abdullah's spokesperson said that both the leaders have agreed to form a government of national unity with Ghani holding the position of the President of Afghanistan and Abdullah being nominated as a chief executive officer, reported the BBC.
Faizullah Zaki, a spokesperson for Ghani, confirmed that the dispute between the two candidates has been resolved and that both have agreed to sign the deal.
An official announcement is expected to be made today.
The decision follows the completion of a comprehensive poll audit that began in July. Both the candidates had earlier accused each other of electoral fraud following June's presidential poll.
