Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has said in a statement that the attack by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on a school in Peshawar where 141 people including 132 children died is "against the basics of Islam".

According to The News, he also said that the intentional killing of children, women and innocent people has to be considered by every Islamic party and government as against the religion.

The TTP had said claiming responsibility for the attack, that it was a revenge for the military offensive in the region.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the massacre was a "national tragedy unleashed by savages".

Authorities regained control of the situation after more than seven hours of fighting that left all the militants dead. However, the explosives left behind were hampering clearance efforts.
