The 96th Independence Day of Afghanistan was observed here today amidst tight security.
The nation's President, Ashraf Ghani, reviewed a guard of honour, placed a wreath and heard the national anthem being played in the Defence Compound.
Some of Kabul's citizens got into their cars and onto their motorbikes and blew horns to celebrate the occasion. Some danced on the streets.
Most expressed their aspiration for peace and security.
The government has been holding official ceremonies inside the Defence Compound since security started to deteriorate in the capital a few years ago. Previously, the Independence Day celebrations were held in a sports stadium several hundred meters away from the presidential palace.
