Congratulating the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for successfully test firing indigenously developed intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile 'Agni 5', President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday said it would enhance India's strategic and deterrence capabilities.

"Congratulations DRDO for successfully test firing Agni V. It will enhance our strategic and deterrence capabilities," President Mukherjee tweeted.

The Strategic Forces Command (SFC) coming under the Nuclear Command Authority (NCA) will be responsible for the management and administration of the Agni 5.

The SFC is responsible for the management and the administration of country's tactical and strategic nuclear weapons and their launch systems. India has declared itself as the 'No First Use' nation.

The test firing of the missile is the fourth developmental and second canisterised trial of the long range missile.

While the first test was conducted on April 19, 2012, the second test was carried out on September 15, 2013, and the third on January 31, 2015 from the same base.
