Striker Sergio Aguero scored twice as Manchester City claimed a comfortable 5-3 win in their first competitive meeting against Monaco in an all-time Champions League classic at the Etihad Stadium here last evening.

The highest-scoring first-leg of the Champions League last-16 clash will live long in the memory as the sides shared eight goals between themselves.

It was Raheem Sterling who opened the scoring for City in the 26th minute of the match before Monaco striker Radamel Falcao's equalized the score via a diving header just six minutes later.

Forward Kylian Mbappe then put the visiting side ahead in the 40th minute of the match by a powerful rising drive, goal.com reported.

Aguero, who felt that he was denied a first-half clear penalty after he tumbled under a challenge from Danijel Subasic, netted another equalizer for City in the 58th minute of the game which followed his second goal of the clash in the 71st minute.

In the 77th minute, John Stones made amends for his poor defending in the build-up to Falcao's second by scoring fourth goal for the home side before midfielder Leroy Sane completed City's stunning recovery just eight minutes prior to the full time.

The two sides will now play the second leg of the last-16 round on March 16.
