Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of doing a somersault on issues related to farmers, saying his government has rejected the proposal of 50 percent hike in Minimum Support Price for farmers.

"Around one year back in an election rally in Hazaribagh, the then PM candidate had distorted Shastriji's slogan to Mar Jawan Mar Kisan. This was done just to get vote. He had also promised 50 percent Hike in MSP (Minimum Support Price) for farmers if voted to power. However in a reply to my question in Parliament his government has rejected the proposal of 50 percent hike," Patel said in a statement.

"More over today farmers are committing suicide and jawans are being killed by terrorist. This is not U turn but a somersault. What does PM have to say about this Mann Ki Baat?" he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address farmers in his 'Mann Ki Baat' series on All India Radio today at 11 am.

This is the sixth edition of the radio programme in which the Prime Minister shares his thoughts with the citizens.
