Drug stores in Hyderabad remained shut on Wednesday to support a strike call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists Association (AIOCD), All India Medical Trade against the sale of medicines online and Government of India's decision to continue such sales through internet.
Telangana will also take part in one-day strike and the members of Telangana chemists and Druggists Association (TCDA) had said that online availability of drugs will encourage irrational use of drugs, increase risk of adverse drug reaction, could make youth addicted because of easy accessibility. It will also encourage low quality, misbranded and spurious medicines.
The Drugs Control Administration in Hyderabad has taken necessary precautions and has made arrangements for smooth availability of medicines to public and to prevent inconvenience to the common public and for their emergency needs.
Despite the bandh call, several medical shops will be kept open for supply of medicines to the public.
