The Indonesian weather agency has reportedly said that bad weather was a major factor behind the crash of AirAsia flight QZ8501.
Edvin Aldrian, head of research at BMKG agency, said that initial analysis had suggested that icy conditions in the air had caused the engine to stop and froze the plane's machinery, reported the BBC.
The AirAsia plane went missing last Sunday while traveling from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board.
The discovery of four pieces of plane wreck has raised hopes of finding the missing plane debris, where most bodies are believed to be trapped.
Only 30 bodies have been recovered from the Java Sea so far.
The plane's black boxes, its flight data and cockpit voice recorders, are yet to be located.
Officials said that the plane was flying at 32,000ft when the pilot sent the last communication to request to climb to 38,000ft to avoid bad weather.
