The Indonesian search team has reportedly located and photographed the main body of the crashed AirAsia flight QZ8501 in the Java Sea, officials said.

Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen confirmed the news and posted pictures of the aircraft wreck taken by a Singaporean search robot on his Facebook page, reported the BBC.

He said that the words inscribed on the side of the wreckage confirmed that the plane was flight QZ8501.

The aircraft lost all contact on December 28 while flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board.

Dozens of bodies have been recovered but the crew is believed to be still trapped inside the plane.

The search team has retrieved the plane's two flight recorders and a tail section so far. Investigators are analysing the information in the "black box" to determine the cause of the crash.
