Minister of State for Civil Aviation Dr. Mahesh Sharma on Thursday expressed concern over the steep rise in airfares during festive seasons and said that the ministry has called on the airlines management to suggest ways to control predating prices.
"It's hard for the lower-middle class or middle-class families to afford high airfare when they wish to visit families on festivals. We've called people from all airlines to put forth suggestions so that predating prices can be controlled," he told ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier expressed concern over the air fare hike during the festive season following which the civil aviation ministry is looking at ways to curb them.
"Prime Minister Modi comes from an ordinary family. He understands the pain of the common man, which is why he felt concerned," Sharma added.
The ministry is looking at various options to address the issue, the official said.
