India's largest education, skill development, services and e-governance network AISECT has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled simultaneous launch of the "Skill India" campaign across 100 cities today.
In a statement, Siddharth Chaturvedi, Director, AISECT, said, "Embarking on the journey of skill development in a mission mode was a longstanding requirement of our country, and, I am glad the sector is now drawing the required focus, with a view to increase our formally skilled and certified workforce from current low levels of two percent to somewhere closer to other developed nations, which are around 60 percent and above."
Chaturvedi further went on to say, "The new Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Policy, which would form the foundation of the Skill India Mission, would hopefully provide the much needed impetus to coordinated effort in skill development initiatives of various departments and ministries."
"I am happy to note that the new policy also takes a comprehensive view on entrepreneurship development amongst youth, which is the need of the hour for providing livelihood opportunities to a vast number of youth in our country," he added.
AISECT is an NSDC partner and has the mandate of providing skills-based training to 1.3 million people over the next 10 years. The organisation has recently also joined hands with NSDC for the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yatra (PMKVY).
