Akal Takht Jathedar appeals to parties to abstain from distributing drugs, liquor during polls

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Friday issued an appeal to candidates of all the political parties to abstain from distributing drugs, liquor during elections.

He said that as per the Sikh traditions intoxication of any kind has been banned according to the religious code of conduct, and added that there has been a trend in the elections that drugs are doled out, which should not happen.

"The society is infested with the drugs and youth are falling pray to the vicious cycle of the drugs. The leaders of the political parties have social responsibility that they should take the people out from the drugs culture and vow not to use the intoxicants during the elections campaign," said Akal Takht Jathedar.

 

Jathedar said that during elections the votes are sought by offering the drugs and liquor by candidates of various political parties.

"If we want to reform the society, the political leaders must take the lead and should pledge not to distribute any kind of intoxicants to the voters", he added.
