Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday rejected suggestions of there being any Modi wave in the country, and added that if it existed at all, it was only in Gujarat.

"There is no Modi wave in the country. It is present only in Gujarat. Therefore, there is no challenge for us, and in fact, we (the Samajwadi Party) are a challenge to others," said Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP is trying to garner votes by playing communal politics.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party and their allies are trying to garner votes by playing communal politics. But I want to congratulate the people of UP who believe in secularity," said Yadav.

"Till now, there is no BJP wave visible. People here do not even know that a Gujarat model of development exists, nor have they seen it. They (the BJP) are a bunch of liars. I think the people of Varanasi are sensible and would never vote for people trying to garner votes by lying," he added.
