All-rounder Luke Wright feels that the end of England batsman Kevin Pietersen's international career has provided him with an opportunity to join England's one-day team.

Wright, who has won only two ODI caps since the 2011 World Cup, said that he is 'desperate' to be selected in the one-day team for England.

According to the BBC, Wright feels that the end of Pietersen's career has provided with an opportunity to impress the new England regime.

Wright currently plays for the Caribbean with England who face the University of West Indies Vice Chancellor's XI ahead of their one-day and Twenty20 internationals against

West Indies, the report added.

After the disastrous trip to Australia, which resulted in team director Andy Flower standing down and Pietersen leaving the international set-up, Wright has reportedly described this tour as a chance to start afresh.

Wright said that it would be tough to break in and all he has to do is score big runs and get the approval first but it did not imply that he was guaranteed to get a place, the report mentioned.

Meanwhile, Wright said that he was desperate to be in the upcoming World Cup next year and he would push for the 50-over format.
