All states should be on board on GST : Jayalalitha to Prime Minister

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has reiterated that the Amendment Bill on Goods and Service Tax should provide for an independent compensation mechanism.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was reportedly released to the press here today, the Tamil Nadu chief minister strongly emphasized on a broad consensus.

The key and contentious issues like dual rate bands, taxation threshold and commodities are to be excluded from the GST.

There should be clarity on dual administrative control, compensation period. It was also emphasized that a methodology should be arrived at among the states and with the Central Government before the enactment of the Constitutional Amendment Bill on GST.
