The Allahabad High Court on Thursday directed the Election Commission (EC) to take a decision regarding the Samajwadi Party (SP) manifesto for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections being misleading.
The order has been issued by a bench consisting of Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court D.B. Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Verma in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Prabhuti Kant.
The petitioner has stated that the claims made by the Samajwadi Party in its manifesto, relating to the completion of the development of Yamuna Expressway, Taj Expressway and the Lucknow Metro are misleading to the voters as the above-mentioned projects are still under process.
The state assembly elections will be conducted in seven phases. Polling for the first phase is scheduled on February 11.
